Marinade for Tri-Tip or Flank Steak

Marinade for Tri-tip or Flank Steak.jpg

During this time of exclusively cooking at home I have been experimenting with a few different meat marinade recipes, combining ingredients, making slight variations, and hoping for the sunshine 🌞 to test out these ideas on the barbecue.

And yes, this is my final answer 😃. Besides some of the regular ingredients I would normally include for a beef marinade, I tried the addition of a teaspoon of steak seasoning, and this turned out to be the secret ingredient! The seasonings I experimented with included Montreal Steak Seasoning, Emmerl’s seasoning, and a beef rub made by Traeger. And the top choice was - well, they were all good! So whatever your favorite steak seasoning is, it will be good in this marinade!

This is an easy meal to prepare, if you place the steak in the marinade early in the day, your mealtime preparation is made simple. Add a vegetable and salad, hope for good weather for the barbecue, and off you go! But - the barbecue isn’t a necessity, this could be prepared under the broiler, or even on an indoor grill or a good old cast iron fry pan. I chose the BBQ, I just love that flavor!

INGREDIENTS -

Beef tri-tip or flank steak, organic is best
1/4 cup avocado or olive oil
3 Tbsp coconut aminos (soy sauce replacement)
2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
1 Tbsp lemon juice, approximately 1/2 lemon juiced
1 tsp dijon mustard
1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
1 tsp of your favorite steak seasoning

Combine all of the ingredients together and place in a storage bag or container for marinating the meat. Add the meat to the marinade and place in the refrigerator for a minimum of one hour or up to all day.

When you are ready to cook, remove the meat from the marinade and allow it to rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.

Prepare the meat on the barbecue, or however your favorite method is. Medium rare is a personal favorite for this cut of meat!

This one was cooked on a Traeger so it has a nice little smoke ring, along with amazing flavor!

And those marvelous mashed potatoes in the background? Instant Pot - it is amazing for potatoes! There will be more details on that later!

Enjoy!
